THE PAKISTAN SAFE DRINKING WATER & HYGIENE PROMOTION PROJECT (PSDW-HPP)

Abt Associates Inc. invites non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to submit EOIs on attached application form for grants under the referenced project with detailed experiences/expertise in water and sanitation and hygiene promotion related activities/projects/programs. Interested organizations should complete the application form with respective answers to all question and submit to us for review.

Abt Associates Inc. is implementing the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded Pakistan Safe Drinking Water and Hygiene Promotion Project (PSDW-HPP). It is working with the Government of Pakistan (GOP)'s Clean Drinking Water Programs and will: a) assist the GOP to design and implement a comprehensive hygiene and sanitation promotion strategy to promote safe water management, and behavior change in hygiene and sanitation practices; b) provide support to local government and non-governmental organizations (NGOs and communities through capacity building and training in operations and management of filtration plants, hygiene and sanitation promotion, community mobilization, planning, cost recovery, and water resources management; c) provide a comprehensive review of water treatment and water quality testing technologies for use at the community and household levels. This expression of interest is focused on a subset of activities that Abt Associates Inc. will conduct in partnership with local non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

  • Build capacity of local government officials, Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA), technical staff and union council administrative staff in operation and maintenance of filtration plants
  • Formation of committees of the communities accessing water from filtration plant to build their capacities by evolving a mechanism for plant ownership and its operation upon termination of Government's operation and maintenance contract
  • Implement a hygiene behavior change strategy by promoting good hygiene and sanitation practices through Behavior Change Communication (BCC) techniques, multimedia, schools, social marketing, and other means
  • Develop linkages with the private sector for integrating hygiene promotion activities
  • Conduct project monitoring and evaluation activities
  • Technical review of household water treatment and water quality testing technologies

The above activities will be conducted in 28 districts, 6 agencies from FATA , 6 Federal Regions (FR) from PATA including 8 earthquake-affected areas over the next three years. In third phase, the project will be implemented in following 09 districts/3 agencies & 6 Federal Regions:

Punjab: Khushab, Gujrat

Sindh: Jamshoro, Thatta, Khairpur, Larkana

Baluchistan: Zoab & Turbat-Kech

NWFP: Swat

FATA: Khyber, North Waziristan, Orakzai,

PATA: FR Bannu, FR Dera ismail khan, FR Kohat, FR Lakki, FR Peshawar, FR Tank.

The NGOs will be selected in accordance with Grant Award procedures approved by USAID for this project. Only shortlisted NGOs will be contacted for further assessment.
